The prototype Droneport Shell from the Norman Foster Foundation was built at the Architecture Biennale, Venice. The strucutre is originaly intended to transport medical supplies to remote regions in Africa using drones.
The fluid design is built with two layers of compressed earth blocks called Durabric, developed by the LafargeHolcim Foundation for sustainable construction with researchers at the Block Research Group from ETH in Zurich and MecoConcept in Toulouse.
The project aims to incorporate solar-powered building material (SolarBrick) in future drone ports to accommodate self-sustaining operational power requirements.
